member, Jan Creiger, won several awards at the recent Designer of the Year Competition. She won National Designer of
the Year in Universal Design and Laundry room categories. She also won second place in Bathrooms. Way to go Jan!
Our local chapter won the new IDS Design for a Difference Award this year! Mark your calendars because our
trophy, Mark Brunetz, is making a special appearance to one of our chapter events which will be open to the public.

Interior Design Society Chicago and Illinois Chapter
is a group of interior designers and industry professionals that provides educational and networking experiences
in the field of interior design.
Design Society Chicago and Illinois is a chapter of the The Interior Design Society (IDS) a nonprofit organization located
in High Point, North Carolina.
Interior Design Society (IDS) was founded in 1973,
and is the largest design organization exclusively dedicated to serving the residential interior design industry.
Membership in The Interior Design Society attests commitment to excellence
in the field of residential interior design.
The Interior Design Society (IDS) is an association comprised
of residential interior designers; interior decorators; design-oriented home furnishings stores and their staff; design studios;
select manufacturers and distributors of design oriented products or services.
Our Past Events
In February 2014, IDS
Member Laura Burke facilitated a discussion about Marketing Strategies. It was very well attended, and we shared lots
of great information!
In September 2013, we toured the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, IL. It was such a
fascinating tour. After the tour, we enjoyed lunch at IL Vicolo Trattoria.
In June 2013, Our local chapter
meeting was hosted by Jo Fiala. We held a lively and funfilled "Best Practices in Interior Design Business
Forum." Summation of the meeting was sent to all attendees.
In May 2013, Our local chapter meeting was hosted by United Supply in Roselle. United
Supply provides to the trade only resources and Pam Szmanesky and Sandy Drum gaves us the lastest information on the newest
solar shades, shutters, woven shades as well as safety standards on window treatments.
In March 2013, IDS Chicago Chapter's "Best Practices Forum 2013" was held at the Arlington
Heights Library. We held a fantastic round table discussion on: Pricing, Insurance, Invoicing/Collections, Contracts
and agreements, Client Programming and Advertising and Marketing
In February 2013, Ebanista
unveiled Collection Ten to our members of IDS Chicago in their Merchandise Mart Showroom. Collection Ten is a series
of approximately forty pieces personally designed and developed by founders, Fari and Melinda Pakzad, in celebration of Ebanista’s
ten year anniversary.
In January 2013, we
enjoyed a fascinating private tour given by David Berkowitz,
Executive Vice President, Manufacturing & Product Development at The Maya Romanoff Corporation in Skokie.
Maya Romanoff, the largest manufacturer
of handcrafted wallcoverings in North America, was founded in Chicago in 1969. We watched in awe as artisans handpainted and
added jewels and silver leaf to the wallcoverings as well as see the intricate steps to creating their hand-dyed and custom-created
